Jacque's Questions 1. Did Emilie ever tell the tutor's son how she felt? 2. Has she fallen in love often since then? 3. What is her greatest fear? 4. If she fell in love with someone and wished to marry them, would anything about that person keep her from marrying them? (i.e. bad habits, money troubles, etc.) 5. What does she want most in the world?
1. Yes, and he had said he loved her. 2. No. She has had deep affection but never love 3. To have control of her own body taken away. To be given like a prize heifer to the highest, or most prestigious, bidder. 4. She would only ask they be faithful to her and to their self 5. To be allowed to be herself
Edith's Questions
1) Why does she steal them when she doesn't need to? It is a way of having a bit of control and revenge on her father. She knows he watches her money and she doesn't want to have to answer for every shilling.
2) What is her biggest regret? not bedding her Tutor's son when he asked her
3) Does she believe anything positive will come out of marrying the man she is promised to? It will make her father happy, but other than that no.
4) If she was given the choice to have the man she is betrothed to killed instead of her being forced to marry him, what would she do? She would marry him and figure out a way to have him jailed
5) Is she religious? Her mother followed the old religions and she does, too, secretly
Melie Auclair's inqueries 1. Many woman are forced to marry men they do not love, and most do as they're told. What is it that made Emilie so opposed to it that she ran away? Was her potential husband really that awful or is is simply a personality trait that she has that caused her to make such a drastic choice?
2.What exactly prompted Emilie to accept so much money from her brother and uncle? Why didn't she tell them they both sent her money? Was she afraid the money would stop coming eventually or was she just being greedy?
3. Not really about the character herself, but how did Emilie's father react to her disappearance? I imagine it would have caused him a lot of shame. What will he think of her now?
4. I know she plans on doing something with the money, but If she could do anything at all with the money without any consequences, what would she chose to do?
5. Emilie supposedly drinks a bit much, has she ever done anything she's really regretted when she had been drinking?
1. Her husband to be is the worst type of aristocrat. He wants her money and nothing more. He has already smacked her once and she is sure he will do it again
2. She did not mean to be greedy but she has a very good reason for accepting both men's money see 4 :)
3. She really only ran to their chateau in France so her father believed her mother, as did society, when she told him that Emilie was furthering her formal education with proper French tutors
4. She secretly uses the interest from the funds to help "lower" class women and servants who have gotten in the family way, whether it was consenual or not
